TUTORIAL - MAKE CONNY'S OTTOMAN

HELLO EVERYBODY!!!
I HOPE YOU HAD WONDERFUL
HOLIDAYS!!!

AND I HOPE THAT 2018 BRINGS
YOU JOY AND HAPPINESS THIS
YEAR!!!!

AND A MUCH BETTER YEAR THAN
YOU PREVIOUSLY HAD!!!

At least this is what I am hoping for. The
Holidays this year at my house were sad since
the loss of my daughter. I just couldn't get
myself moving.
I hope you are still with me.

I wanted to post my way of making an Ottoman.
So many ways to make these and so many materials
in which to use. It is always best to use
and recycle materials. Anyway making ottomans
are super easy.
Sometimes the directions are just hard to make. I do
try to make the directions so that when google
translates, you can understand.

This is super easy, remember that! There are
plenty of pics to help guide you.
So here it goes!

PLEASE READ!
ALSO - THIS IS DELILAH'S OTTOMAN THAT IS
PICTURED IN THE HALLOWEEN APARTMENT.
I DID NOT WANT TO MAKE THE SAME OTTOMAN
TWICE AS I DID NOT NEED ANOTHER ONE, SO
HOPEFULLY YOU CAN BEAR WITH ME SINCE
THERE ARE MANY PICS WITH RED/BLACK PLAID
AND CANDY CORN FABRIC COMBINED. BECAUSE
I DID NOT TAKE ANY PICS OF THE RED/BLACK PLAID
OTTOMAN BEING MADE.

ALSO - THERE ARE 2 WAYS IN MAKING MY
OTTOMAN:
THE NORMAL WAY IS THE
RED/BLACK PLAID OTTOMAN.
THE OTHER WAY CANDY CORN OTTOMAN
HAS A PILLOW-TYPE TOP.
I WILL GIVE YOU BOTH WAYS HERE IN
THIS TUTORIAL.
PICK WHICH DESIGN YOU LIKE AND
USE FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL USE.

AS ALWAYS PLEASE REFER TO THIS
LINK AND GIVE ME CREDIT FOR MY IDEAS
AND WHAT I SHOW YOU.
THANK YOU.

DELILAH'S OTTOMAN

These Ottoman's can be made in any size
that you want!

of something else

I bought this scrapbook paper sometime ago. I forgot
how many sheets are in this package but I have 3
sheets left.
I guess you could use cardboard and peel off one
side of the paper, but I am not sure how thick that
would be. Not sure if you could even bend it.
But this paper is flexible and can be bent!

Here is a pic up close of the measurements for those
that need centimeters.

This is on the back of each sheet.

This is a full length sheet.

Up close pic of the flutes.

Sideways of the flute. Flexible to use!
See how it can bend easily.

This is what you are going to make. I made 4
in the beginning.

Another pic with the bottom exposed.

Both of the ottomans are different sizes. What size
you make is totally up to you. You can make these
little ottomans fat or skinny. My red/black plaid
ottoman is short and fat while the candy cane ottoman
is more taller and skinnier.

The candy-corn ottoman is 1 and 3/4ths inches high and
that includes the top of the pillow.

Below is the side measurement for the
red/black ottoman.

Start by measuring out the almost or make it
one inch for easy figuring. Put tick marks all the
way down the paper. Does not matter which
side you use cause the paper is a square.

Cut out the strip out.

Place the cut strip on top of the paper
and cut more strips. Continue cutting
strips across the paper.
Keep in mind that it only takes 1 and a
half strips to make one ottoman. Or you
can use 2 full strips. The choice is yours.

I cut out 3 strips, but I did not need
3 cause my red/black ottoman takes
a little over half of the second strip.
Make sure that all of the strips are the
same size in width!!
Also - everybody winds strips differently,
some people wind tightly while others
wind loosely.
The strips for the red/black ottoman
is not wound that tightly, but it is not
wound loosely either.
The strips for the candy-corn ottoman
is a little taller so it kind of winds a
little tighter. At least it appears to me
to do so.

Making these ottomans are so easy and
fast! They are really a lot of fun to make!
TO BEGIN - start at the very end of
your strip and apply glue on the fluted
sections. Only apply the glue down the
strip about 4 inches at a time. And as
you see here, you do not have to apply
glue everywhere on each flute. The
glue will hold.
You are going to glue and roll!!!!

Gently start rolling from the edge.

Try to keep the sides even as you roll down the
strip. Add more glue as you go along.

Almost to the end!
It rolls up very quickly!!!

When you come to the end. Be sure to
put glue on the end and stick it down
good.

Hold it down for a couple of seconds or until
the glue takes hold and secures. This takes
less than a minute to glue together.

To add another strip to this, just butt up another strip
to the existing strip. DO NOT OVERLAP!!!!
Then continue to glue and roll until the strip is
finished.

Your ottoman should look similar to this when you
are finished. Your ottoman could be fatter than this,
but hopefully not any skinnier than this. Count
the rings - only about 6 rings going around.

The next step is to take a piece of cardboard and draw
the shape of your ottoman around it.

Draw 2 - each ottoman needs a top
and a bottom. Cut both out. Mark top
and bottom as you see here.

Make sure each piece is the correct size. Trim
if needed. It doesn't have to be exact. Then glue
ONLY THE BOTTOM CARDBOARD ON THE
OTTOMAN.

These little ottomans do not take much fabric
at all. This is a quilting strip about 3 inches long
and 2 inches wide. Cut 2 of these little strips.

Now, mark around each ottoman onto
the fabric. Leave some room around
each piece.

Cut out a little more around each piece as you see here.

Next, put lots of glue on the cardboard that you glued
onto the ottoman.

Place the fabric on top matching up the lines and
then with scissors cut the fabric from the edge to the
ottoman - but do not cut the ottoman!
Apply a small amount of glue on the ottoman
and bend down each piece you cut into the glue.

Cutting allows you to bend each piece down and
gives you a nicer, cleaner edge. It takes only a
minute or less to dry.

See how neat the edges are. Now apply a little
bit of glue around the top of the side edge of the
ottoman.

Find the middle of your strip and butt
the edge of it up to the edge of the ottoman.
Press down with your fingers if it straight.

Apply a little bit of glue as you along and finish
one side of the strip, make sure you keep it even
and straight with the top.

With scissors cut off that one side of the strip
that has been glued.
Then stop.

I do not have a habit of gluing all of the fabric
down onto the ottoman, so I gently peel up
a little bit of the bottom edges, apply a little glue
and press the fabric back down.
This is how I do it, you can glue it all down
if you wish.

Next proceed to the other side of the
fabric strip. Apply little glue and
continue around till you come up to the
other seam edge.

Apply little glue on top and bottom
edge and glue it down. Make sure
all is straight and even with the top
edge. Press firmly down.

Hold for a few seconds till the glue
bonds.  If everything looks good, then
with your scissors, cut off the bottom
edge even with the ottoman.

 Glue the edge down.

This is what it looks like from the side.

This is what it looks like towards the top of the
ottoman.

FOR THE RED/BLACK OTTOMAN - you will have to
cut the fabric a lot wider than what I show here.
SORRY - NO PIC SFOR THIS PART!!!

(THIS PIC GOES TO THE CANDY-CORN BUT I
CAN USE THIS  PIC TO SHOW YOU WHAT
TO DO NEXT).
Cut the fabric
about 2 inches wider than the cardboard. You will
need a little bit of stuffing. Stuff between the cardboard
and the fabric. Then cut from fabric edge to the
cardboard. Lightly apply glue and glue down onto
the cardboard. This forms the pillow top that you
see in the next photo.

Then glue the entire pillow top onto
the ottoman! Make it fit the sides!
Apply a ribbon or a design on top.

Top of my ottoman.

A side and top view.

Hold the ottoman as shown. A trim is needed
to hide seams.

Apply a little glue halfway around the ottoman.
Or all the way around the ottoman whichever you
prefer to do.

Lay the trim on the ottoman and press down
firmly all the way around the ottoman.

The trim was a last minute thing I did to the ottoman.
Glad I took pics of this part.

FOR THE PILLOW-TOP OTTOMAN.

By the way, the other piece of cardboard that says
TOP was made a little differently than the bottom.
I cut the fabric edge to the cardboard and glued the
cut sides down to this cardboard. Then I glued it down
on top of the ottoman. This will be hid by the
pillow-top. It just helps to finish it off in cases
someone tries to look under the pillow.

Take a 2 inch piece of fabric. Either glue or sew the
sides together. Leave one side open.

Stuff.

Then glue or sew shut.

I wanted to fancy it up a little so I sewed in a
little orange bead in the middle of the pillow. I
was going to use my small skull beads but I could
not find them. Had to use the beads. But it turned
out okay I think.

When I sewed the bead on, I tightened it at
the back of the pillow so as to indent the
pillow before I knotted the threads together.
Can you tell.

Then I decided to stitch beads at all
4 corners.

Next, I added a small bead of glue as near to
the center of the ottoman top as possible.

I centered the pillow-top onto the ottoman. Then
I applied a little glue on the underside of each
point that had a glue. I held down one side with my
finger and then went opposite it and held down that
side. When it stuck then I went to the other 2 sides
and did the same.

 Top of the pillow-top.

A top and side angle view.

(I got lazy making this pillow-top. I folded a 4inch
piece into a 2inch piece and glued 3 sides, after
I stuffed it, I glued the other side and applied it to
the ottoman. I might re-do the pillow-top cause I have
one folded nice edge and the other 3 sides do not
look that good to me.)
So do not mix sewing or
gluing the pillow-top together like I did.
I do not
like how it sticks up on the glued  sides.
My choice is to remove the pillow-top and either
sew it together properly. Then put it back together
again or just leave it as it is. I can glue down
the parts that is sticking up.

NAH!!
After much deliberation - I carefully removed
the pillow-top and re-made it! I sewed it
together like I should have done in the first
place!

After all witch's like nice things too!

Well, I just could not stand looking at it any
longer. It peeled off easily enough without tearing
any of the fabric. I sewed the pillow-top and
added the beads again. Put it all together in
just a matter of minutes.
I hope you like my Ottoman tutorial!
Thank you for visiting me!
