TUTORIAL - MAKE A SIMPLE DRESS IN 5 or 10 MINUTES!!

Hello Everyone!

Am sorry that it has taken me so
long to do this apartment. I work
on it almost daily. Had to take a
short break.
I am still not finished yet. I was
working on my doll and made a
boo-boo with her hair, anyway
I decided to take off all of her
hair and now she is bald!
Now I gotta wig her!

Anyway, most of the time I give
you a tutorial between apartments,
but since this one is taking so long,
I thought I would give it to you now,
and hope that the apartment will
be finished soon.
FINGERS CROSSED!!

Okay, like I said this dress should
not take you anymore than 5 or
10 minutes.

This is for display and cannot be worn!

Get your supplies ready!
You will need:
1. needle with matching
thread.
2. various trims.
3. shoulder pads.

YES, YOU HEARD ME SHOULDER PADS!!

Amazingly, but you can still find them.
They are in old dresses, shirts and still
today you can find new ones!

PLEASE LINK BACK AND TELL OTHERS
THAT YOU SAW IT HERE!!
THANK YOU.

This is a shoulder pad - you can not
tell, but I assure you it is!
FRONT

BACK

Okay lets start!! Please read directions
before starting the project.

Not all shoulder pads are created
equal! If you zoom into these, you will
see that the white one is off, but I do have
a project with that also, so do not throw
any of them away. Save the ones like the
white one for later. I have an idea of what
to make with them. Am planning a
TUTORIAL for the white one as well.

I need to add this info about the pads:
The white shoulder pad is filled with
light fiberfill. Very cheaply made.
The pink ones have a thin sponge in
them for padding. Probably a more
expensive shoulder pad.

You are basically looking for a shoulder pad
with this length to it.

And this width.

For this project: I am using the pink one. Fold
in each edge to the inside to form a
tube like this.
Overlap on top of each other only slightly.
Pin it together.

With needle and matching thread
sew it together. BE CAREFUL,
DO NOT STITCH TO THE BACKSIDE!
You should be able to put your small
finger in this tube on one side and
it come out on the other side.

Cut off the 2 ends. Be careful and do not
cut any of the stitched part or folded
part on the ends.
Now, you have a top and a bottom. Make
sure that the bottom is wider than the top.
See how the sides kind of indent some,
forms a natural kind of curve to her body.

TRIMMING:  I happened to find a trim
that had sequins on it. I started close to my
finger in the V
close to the stitching and laid my trim right
in there and stitched down with a few threads.
Then I proceeded with the trim in my hand, I
stitched the trim going towards the right
side on the edge of the stitching. I stitched
the trim all the way around the neck, then
back down to the V. I hid the trim where
I started and stitched the trim down the
length almost to the bottom of where the
V starts. Then without stitching I took
my trim all the way around the bottom of
the dress and back up to the V so I could
measure how much was needed. I then cut
off the rest of my trim cause it was so bulky.
Cut off a little more than needed just to
make sure you have enough trim to tuck.
Then I stitched the rest of the trim on
going around the bottom and back up to
the V. I hid the cut edge in that V just as
I did the top V. Anchor the stitches well,
so that they do not come loose.

For the straps: I took a piece of the trim and cut it
away from the sequins and lightly glued them
inside onto the shoulder pad!
Then I put it on a hanger!
Enjoy!
Thank you for visiting me!
And thank you for your sweet comments!

TUTORIAL - MAKE Lily's Bun SNOOD For Your Mini Doll

Hello Everyone,

This apartment is taking me longer
than I have anticipated. So I thought
that I would give you a
little tutorial for your mini
doll.

I published this on my other blog.
Click here to see the doll that
I put it on.

NOW DO NOT BE SCARED!

LILY IS THE MODEL!!

MAKE THIS BUN SNOOD:

This is the pretty bun at the back of the wig. Her
bun is about a half inch or less in size!
It is very tiny!
NOTHING IS GLUED IN HER HAIR!!
SUPER EASY!!!!

YOU NEED A HOLY DOILY!
I have already cut a piece out to use.

Use the center of this piece where my
thumb is at. Place this inside area on the bun of
the doll. Lightly mold it with your fingers around
the bun to see how big you need.

Place the doily on the hair bun and walk your
fingers around the bun to see how big you need
it. Double check again. See how many of
the crochet lines that you need to stitch across.
Thread a small needle and knot it.
Start where you see my knot.
Weave the needle in and out
of the crochet. Stitch  in a circle.
I need to stitch across about 5 of these
crochet lines for my dolls bun. Stitch it a little
bigger than the
bun and keep fitting it to the bun to make sure it
fits.

Stitch in a circle. See the knot where I started.
You must end here also.

Lightly gather the stitching with the thread.

It is starting to look like a hat. You can put your
finger inside to stretch it. Push it out a little.

Next, cut off all the crochet that extends beyond
your stitching. Do not cut your stitching. Be
careful.
It looks like a little cap now!

It is so tiny!

Place on the dolls head.
Now take the knot and pull on it so you now have
one side with the knot and the other thread is still
attached to the needle as is in the photo here
and subsequent photos.
DO NOT GLUE THIS SNOOD ON HER HAIR!
GLUE IS MESSY AND
THERE IS NOT ANY NEED TO GLUE IT.

Gather it good but not to tightly, and with your
fingernails see if you can push the excess
crochet thread under the hair on both sides
of her head.

Use your fingernail and make sure that the
snood is under the hair at the bottom.
If you do not have fingernails, use a pin or
a needle to help it.

Next lightly gather tightly and shaping
it again. Leave the needle on the
thread as you see here.

Once you are happy with the
way it looks and all the hair is tucked
inside, then gather it up not too tightly
and with both threads make a knot at
the top of the snood.
I find it easier
to make a knot with the needle still
attached. It helps to keep the thread
in your hands.

 Cut off the excess threads.
All done with this part.
SEE, THIS WAS EASY!

Now with your fingernails, gently
push the crochet down in and around
the hair.

It is good to double check constantly in case
it comes out when you are not looking.

I bought this blue satin ribbon for a hair bow.

Take a long piece about 8 or 9 inches of ribbon.
Put it around your finger or thumb and tie just once
around. Leave an opening a little bigger than
your finger as you see here.

Place the ribbon around her hair and draw it gently.

Check each side of her head and under the bun also.

Make sure it is as you like it and then tie the ribbon into
a bow above the snood.

Do not make any unsightly knots.
Do not glue!
Adjust the bow and cut off the ends at an angle.
Now sit and admire your work!
How lovely it looks!!

I hope you have enjoyed Lily's Tutorial!
Thank you for visiting me!
Come again,
Conny

Apartment #5 - Paula Brooks aptmt - Bathroom and an Aida Cloth wall

Hello everyone!

Thank you for the sweet comments.
I hope that everybody had a very nice
Thanksgiving.

Christmas is just around the corner.
I sure
do hope that I can get this apartment finished
before then.
I go next week again to give blood.
I do hope that I can get more done before then.

Anyway it is coming along slowly, but I am
making progress.

First, I had painted the long wall white a while
back.
I decided that the wall looked too naked
and needed texture.
I pulled out the wall and
took the long side wall and glued
Cross-stitch fabric called Aida cloth onto it.

It looks really great now and it has
plenty of texture!

As you can see the black painted walls and the
floor is to be a bathroom.

I know you cannot see it, but I had to make a
side wall and a top piece to go above the
door.
Yep! this is a bathroom.
I had to paint the door and glue on the doorknob.
The shabby floor was pulled up as you can see
and I had to re-paint the floor.
I have curtains to make and furniture to
paint along with making clothes!
I hope this apartment looks good as I
imagine it.
Thank you for visiting me!

Apartment #5 - Paula Brooks - The Bed

Hello Everyone!
How have you been. I do hope
that this month you have been
well.

Am sorry - but I have been
anemic and am working as
fast as I am able on the
apartment.  To my dismay I must
go again this Wednesday for
more blood to be drawn out. So
I will get done what I can.

I do not know if you have guessed
it or not - but the apartment is
going to be ONLY in Black-n-White.

I had to remove the painted white
wood floor. It just would not work
in this space.

At least I got the bed finished!
I had this bed for over 18 years.
It was in a natural
color.
Sorry I forgot to take the before photo but
here is the after.
It took a total of 3 coats of paint
for the inside and the outside.
In between each coat
I had to let it dry for a full day.
The paint is a high gloss enamel.
The bed has decoration
on the small sides pieces. I
t is hard to see, but I
did not want any gold or white on this bed.
I wanted it to be only black.

I should have probably sanded down between
coats, but the apartment is not a high-end
apartment.
The apartment is for a working girl.
On her 1st apartment, she bought what she could!

You know the secret to my mattresses already!!
I just cut the size I need and then cover it like a
present! Generally I sew it, but this time I glued
it because it was much faster for me.

Here is the mattress all done.
Ready to be fixed unto the bed.

The bed linens came from a KNITTED BLOUSE that had all of
this gorgeous dripping lace on it!
About 12 inches total. It was just lovely!!
I could not let this beautiful fabric get away from
me without using it!

Can you see the knitted area. When I make the curtains,
I will show you the blouse so you can get a better
idea of what it looks like and what you need to
look for in case you want to try this look.

First, I show you the bottom of the bed with the
lace blanket.
I  did not hem any of the edges.
There
is a long pillow placed under the lace blanket
to give it height.

For the blanket, I cut a large piece of the lace,
about 9 inches X 8 inches, very close to that.
I made a long pillow and stuffed it with cotton
balls and just sewed it together with one long seam.
You can see here how I have placed the long
pillow under the lace cover.

There is no lace on the pillow at all. It is made
from the same knitted fabric as the bed cover.

The bed pillow itself is made differently than the
long pillow.
I actually made a big pillow and stuffed
it with cotton balls.
I did not fully stuff it. I wanted
a relaxed look so as to look dented or that she had
not too long ago placed her head upon it.
Then
I made another pillowcase from just the lace.
I hand sewed it together and placed the pillow
inside just as you would for your own bed.
I left a lot of the lace hanging down below the mattress.
I wanted the lace pillowcase to look
bigger than the actual pillow.

Afterwards I hand sewed tucks and gathers into the
lace that is draping down below the mattress.
The bed turned out so lovely. I am so pleased with it!
Hoping now that I can move on to the window
and make curtains and perhaps a bed canopy!
Please enjoy my photos!
Thank you for visiting me.

Apartment #5 - Paula Brooks aptmt - Black and White

Hello Everyone,

I am so sorry for not posting but so much
has been going on.
Well I will tell you what has happened
so far.

I will not bore you with details.
Do you know what Hemochromatosis is?
Yes, I have it.
So I have been giving my blood every 2 weeks.
It has not been easy
getting that almost black Jello blood
out of my veins.
The RN finally resorted
to a very large needle to go into my
vein the last time I was there.
And then
I went to give more blood and found out
that my hemoglobin and hemocrit was low.
Making me borderline anemic.

And mind you, since they first started
taking my blood, I have been sick. It
basically put my body in shock.
Finally they had to start giving me
fluids!

To top it off. my 93 year old father died
last week.
So forgive me for not
posting an update with this apartment.

I finally got the windows and the door painted
white. I guess you are wondering what the
black thing is!
That is a surprise!

It almost looks like a box is there. I like how it
looks like something is behind the box.
NO BOX!!
THIS IS THE BATHROOM!!!

You are not seeing things. The bathroom wall
is painted black!!!!
The paint is still wet.
I hope to have this apartment finished in the
next couple of weeks.

Thank you for visiting me!
