TUTORIAL - SLIP and CAMI MADE FROM DRESS SLEEVES

 Hello everyone!
Spring and Summer are hard
months to blog.
So many things to do!
I am sorry that I have not posted,
but it was because I was making a
tutorial on my other blog:

I made a WHOLE-DOLL pincushion with the
directions. In case you have not seen
her, I have placed only the directions here
for you, concerning her slip and cami.
You can always look at my other
blog if you need to view the entire doll.

The doll on that blog is 7 inches high. Too
tall to go into the miniature apartments.
However, she has on the cutest slip and
bodice that I made for her.
And I would like to show you that you
can make this to go on your mini doll
or just display it on the mini bed.

The directions are easy and simple. There
are 2 directions for you to use. You can
hand sew it or use a sewing machine.
Either you can permanently let the doll
wear it.
Or you can make it
lay it on the bed or hang it up!

This is a baby dress.
It is cotton with a flower stitched
on the bodice and on the lower right side of the dress.
It is about a 9 to 1 year old dress.
The tag said 24s,
which could be foreign made. Not sure.
I have not seen a tag like that.
Anyway the dress is covered in fine net.
It is so pretty!!
The sleeves are net as well.
I am sure that you have seen little baby dresses like
this.
Anyway it does not matter what dress you use
as long as
THE SLEEVES RESEMBLE THIS SLEEVE
ON THIS DRESS.

Cut out the sleeve leaving a good amount
of the white cloth on it.

This is the left side of the sleeve.

I have taken the same sleeve and turned it
sideways for you. T
he right side will be the
cami and the left side of this sleeve will
be the slip.
Look at the netting part with the
pink trim.
See where the net looks like it
dips in - THAT IS WHERE I CUT AT.
If the cami part is a little big - that's okay. The
slip will not be that big.
You must have enough of the slip to be able
to gather it.

This is the cami opened up.

Put wrong sides together as the picture shows here.
With sides even, stitch it closed.
Trim away any
excess fabric to the right of your stitching.
Trim away some of the
white cotton on the bottom of the cami so it only
leaves about a half inch.

Turn right side out.
See how much of the white
cotton that I left on.
Also notice about 2 of my
fingers are inserted inside. That is what you should
have for that width.
Next, starting at the back here,
run a gathering stitch around the cami, where
you see the stitches at in this photo. (where the netting
and the top of the white cotton meet).
See these stitches,
sew the gathering stitches there on the STITCHED LINE.
This is the back of the bodice in this photo.

Place the cami on the doll and make sure that
the front is on the front of the doll.
Next, eye ball
the side of the cami in relation to where
the arm-holes should go.
All I did here was cut
a small gash in the netting to allow the arm
to go through.
Once I pulled up the cami like
it should be, I then pulled the gathering threads
at the back of the doll, knotted it and cut away
excess thread.
THIS CAMI IS PERMANENT ON THE DOLL.

TO LAY ON THE BED OR TO HANG.
START HERE AND DO THIS:

Do all of the steps include the gathering that
you see in the above photo.

HANGING THE CAMI. At this
point you can use strong white or pink
QUILTING THREAD to make straps.
Tie a knot in the thread on inside of the cami on
the back, make a length going to the inside front
and knot it off on the inside of the front of the cami.
Do the same to the other side and hang it on the
clothes hanger.

FOR THE SLIP: There is not a photo here to show
you. For the slip just take the remainder of the sleeve that is
left and sew up the back seam. Gather a little
ways from the top.
If you want it permanent on the doll then
put it on the doll, draw up the gathers, then knot
it closed. Hide the knot and cut off excess thread.

If you want to lay the slip on the bed, then
gather it up like you want, knot it and hide the
knot. Then cut away any excess threads.

If you want to hang up the slip, simply take the
quilting thread and with just a few stitches on
each side of the slip, run a long stitch over the
top of the clothes hanger to the other side of the
slip to secure it.
The slip can hang by itself on the clothes hanger
or underneath the cami!

I did not gather my cami. Nor did I put any straps on
my cami. Mine is to be laid across the bed as is.

I hope that you use this tutorial!
Thank you for visiting me! Have a great day!
