TUTORIAL - A SINK AREA MADE FROM A BABY CHANGING TABLE

Do you need a little kitchen?

Some of the miniature dollhouse kitchens are

a little bigger than I need
for my apartments so I will have
to find substitutes.

It took me a few days in my boxes to find something

suitable to be used for a kitchen.
I came up with this baby changing table and pad.
Since it was

missing a drawer, I figured this could work
for what I need. I am

not very good with wood, so for me it is best

that I find something that will do the job.

This is a nice size.

This will be a sink area. I do not know in 
which apartment this will go in.

I liked the fact that it was wood, old looking and

already painted white.
One step that I don't have to do.
Backside not bad either.

So this is what I did.
I peeled away the pad that was on top. I want
to keep that cause it might come in
handy for something else. 
I removed the pink drawers.
That will be another project.

I took out one of the long

shelves that was between the 2 drawers 
because the spaces are not wide enough
to hold much.
I wanted a bigger area to hold a pot if needed.
It is really best to remove the shelf.

At this time I was planning on

using one of those condiment plastic things from a

fast food place that holds ketchup.
A friend gave me this one.
My hubby

measured and then cut open the space for it.

I easily broke off the 2 side pieces
on either side of the sink. It was only there to keep
the pink pad in place.
 The plastic sink was okay, but

I did not like the fact that it did not
fit very well in the front.
The plastic thingy is too big for this changing table.

I guess I could have trimmed off some of

the flashing but looking at it, I decided that the sink

would look too thin for me.
Notice how the flashing helps

to hide the raw edges of where my hubby cut the

sink opening. I do like that. 
The protruding sink does not look bad at all.

I did paint the insides of the changing table
with a thin coat of paint. 
It needs to look a little worn as it
goes into an apartment.

I am not one to play with clay.
I do not have the power to mold it.

My daughter Pep decided to take some pink clay

and make me a plain kitchen sink.
She did not like the plastic
container thingy.

While the clay was being formed

and she constantly kept making sure that the sink

would fit the opening.
When she was done shaping it, with this

little faucet I pushed it into the clay

and then took it off.

Pep baked the little sink according to the 
directions.
While that was being done, I 
painted the top where I took off the sides.
You can tile this little area if you want
to.

After it baked and cooled, I took the
warm sink and very gently wedged it 
into the space.
I glued in the faucet.

I like all of the marks that is on the side of the

sink.
It looks well used.
And has character!
I must admit that I do love this look!

For the drain - I used 
a very think coffee stirrer. While the sink
was still warm, I applied a little pressure
and made an indention. 
I wanted the stopper to look like it
was still in the drain hole.
For show - you can glue a tiny bead
in the middle of the stopper - OR NOT.

When finished, mix up some glue with white
paint.
Let it harden a little, then paint it around the sink
to act as caulking.
If you tile the top, then there will not be any need
to caulk.
You do not have to caulk yet.
Decide which one you want and go from there.

Lastly, I took clear fingernail polish and coated

the outside and the inside of the sink.
I painted on several coats for extra glossiness!

I decided against the tiny bead on the 
drain stopper.
But I have not caulked it yet.
I must wait to see where this sink will be
used at to see if I must add tile or caulk it.

This is just a small update on the apartment.

You really do need to get some of these wall holders.

They work so well as bay windows.

 

As you can see the white cotton curtains are up.
The fireplace is

looking so good between the windows.
The entire

apartment has wood floors, but I thought it would be

much better to put white carpet in the back half of

this apartment. 
It looks good here.
The carpet is only white fleece.

It is very soft and is giving the romantic

look and feel that I want.
By the way, the carpet is not glued down.

 

I thought it would be romantic to place a white cotton

oblong doily on top of the carpet.
Once everything gets in place you will not be
able to see this - that is, if it stays put.

 

I painted the door and attached the doorknob.
The door

also has a little bit of tacky wax at the top and bottom

to hold it in place. No glue!
So glad all of this is finished.

Also this wall with the door is not

permanently set in place either.
I put a little bit of tacky wax to hold it in place.

I want to be able

to re-paper if I feel like it later.

GEE - I am really liking this tacky wax!!

 

The wall holder is not crooked.
I had a hard

time getting in-between the wall and this

building to get a good snapshot.
There is

not a lot of room here plus I have a box

in my way that you cannot see.
 

However I only attached this wall holder

with TACKY WAX. It has been up for about

5 days now and has not fell off.
I buttered it up really good!
It seems to be

holding tight to the outside wall. If it falls,

then I will have to glue it on and I will let you

know if it does.
But I hope that does not happen.

These wall holders are very

lightweight.

 

Here is the other window on the other

side of the fireplace. You will be surprised

to see what goes here.
I did debate if I should put another
bay window here, but it is too close
to the outside wall.

Apartment #9 - Rachel's Apartment - WALLHOLDERS OR BAY WINDOWS

I hope you all are well.

I want to show you what I bought from eBay. The lady that

sells these is very sweet. I bought 9 of these wall holders

from her.

When I saw them - they looked like very nice bay

windows to me.  Linda calls these wall holders.

Right now she has only 4 of these wall-holders left.

I suggest that you contact her because she will give you

a great deal on them. Tell her Conny from its a mini

life sent you.

I do intend to buy more of them once I use these up.

 This is what the wall holders look like.
This one has a pretty dark pink roof.

I have a few

that are a different color.
It does not matter to

me that the roof colors are different. Some

will look faded.
These are so cool.

They are already put together.

They are plastic. You can paint these or

not. I chose to leave it this color.

Notice how the side windows will have to

be put in. You can use plastic or plexi-glass

for the windows.

This is a side view of the wall holder.

Here is the inside view of the wall holder.

Be sure to mark your wall for the nail hole.

I plan on using tacky wax to
hold the wall

holder onto the exterior walls.
I want to be

able to remove them in case I want to redo

the inside.
I will let you know how that works.

I painted the inside all white.
And then I

glued in some wood look floor paper.

This is the package that my scissors

came in.
I have held onto this

package for at least a year wanting

to use this plastic.

For the plastic windows you

really want to use a box-like plastic

for the side windows.

You see how narrow this

box is. It is perfect!!

I cut cardboard so I could cover

these with the same wallpaper

that is on the walls in the apartment.

At this time I also cut cardboard

for the top of the windows.

Once you cut the windows out of the

plastic scissor box or a similar plastic

box that you have,
then just glue them

in on the inside.
See how the plastic

scissor box sides fix the problem of

folded plastic.

Once the windows are glued in place

and you have covered the cardboard.

Then glue the wallpaper cardboard pieces

into place.
Do not worry if you mess

up some, it will not be seen, unless you

place the bay window where it will

be seen.
No need for any trims on the

top, but if you wanted to, you could

trim the bottom.
I opted to keep mine simple.

Here you see where I added a piece

of lace just above the window.
I do

plan on putting side windows once

I put the window where it belongs.

I have other plans for what is going

into this bay window, but my next

bay window will have  a window

seat.

I am looking forward to

making that one.

Next week I hope to have the window

in place and a few other things done.

Apartment #9 - Rachel's Apartment - wallpapered and floored

Hello Everyone! I hope that you are having

a great weekend. It has been raining here and it

makes me feel great!!!

 

The rain beats all of that wheat and other stuff

down onto the ground to where it is not

flying around.

 

I want to tell all of my new followers - WELCOME!

And to all of you sweet followers that comment

on my blog - a big Thank You!

 

I do plan on having some more giveaways - I just

have to find one to do.

 

Anyway - I have started on Apartment #7. Here

is what has been done so far.

 

The wallpaper is called Sonata - in pink. It is a

beautiful wallpaper. I am getting ready to start painting

the door today.

 

This is the back wall of the apartment.

 

See that large window section that has been cut out

It is a bay window that I have been working on.

 

I hope that the bay window looks good.
Oops I must

fix that wallpaper above it.

 

The floor paper is still wet. When it dries - it will

look much better and hopefully the bubbles will be

gone.

TUTORIAL - Make Conny's ottoman or little table

I have another super easy 

tutorial for you. 

Supplies: 

porcelain napkin holder

ribbon

fabric

glue

cotton balls or poly

a little compact mirror for table

We will be making either the little table or 

a cute little ottoman.

You pick!

To make the table it is simple 

- just apply glue a little

around the top of the rim of the napkin holder.  

Place a compact mirror on the top. 

Hold down for a little bit until the glue sets.

All finished!

TO MAKE OTTOMAN

I wish I had picked up all 4 porcelain napkin holders

from the thrift store but at that 

time I didn't.

I didn't think that I would want more

than one, but when I got home I saw that

I could make a little table with it also.

Went back and the other 3 were gone.

Later I will look for some more!

This is what my ottoman looks like.

Use any color fabric and ribbon that

you like. 

As you can see here, I did not fluff up

or pat the sides in, to shape the top.

It is drying so I did it after I made this posting.

Porcelain napkin holder

You can see thru.

Take a piece of thick card or glue several

pieces of thin card together to get the 

card thick enough - 3 layers will be 

enough. 

You just don't want it flimsy.

When dry or if your card is thick, then 

place the porcelain napkin holder on 

top of the cardboard, draw around it

and cut out a round shape.

Put napkin holder on top of fabric

draw around it. 

Cut about a half inch away from the

circle that you drew so the fabric is

bigger. 

You need some fabric to go around.

Take cotton balls or poly and lightly

pad the top of your cardboard

pattern.

Apply glue to the backside of the cardboard.

Remember padding faces the fabric.

Spread the glue around as evenly as

possible.

Then start folding in the fabric onto

the glue.

When finished it will look similar

to mine.

Apply a lot of glue around one of the

openings and smear it around real

good to make sure that you didn't

miss a spot.

Shape up your circle till you are

happy with the way it looks.

Take your top and place on top of

the napkin holder.

Hold down till dry.

Add ribbon around the top edge to make

it look nice.

Add a bow if you want.

Decorate as you please.
